The Mobile site
The Mobile site of Coatings & Additives is located in the county of the same name in the U.S. state of Alabama. Thanks to its favorable location near the Gulf of Mexico, Mobile (population approx. 191,500) is one of the largest seaport towns of the southern United States.
Mobile is the production facility in the southern U.S. of Evonik Degussa.
The facility in Mobile is a key multi-user site of Evonik Industries. In addition to Coatings & Additives, the site also houses production facilities of the Industrial Chemicals and Health & Nutrition Business Units. The former Degussa Alabama Inc. selected the 160-hectare area as a production site as early as 1973.
Apart from the economic significance of the site, the plant in Mobile is known for its social commitment and the community spirit of its employees. Some 90 percent of employees volunteer in the community of Mobile, where they live and work. The town on the Gulf coast also features many tourist attractions. In addition to historic structures from various architectural periods, the area offers many nature preserves for outings. In “Alligator Alley,” courageous visitors can observe some 150 alligators in their natural habitat and even witness feedings.
